Here Is Why You Should Visit Beautiful Ammoudi Bay in Santorini
The traditional and signature blue and white colors of Santorini fade away in the village of Oia to reveal the beautiful crimson red hues of Ammoudi Bay. The deep mahogany shade of the cliffside is the result of iron rich rocks that were naturally sculpted by the volcanic eruption that forever defaced Santorini’s infrastructure in 1646 BC.
So, you’re probably wondering how many steps from Oia to Ammoudi bay.
Ammoudi Bay is accessible by descending 200 stairs or driving down a very narrow path.
It’s my favorite location on my new island home because of its charm, distinction, and seclusion. Furthermore, it offers many small twists and turns throughout in addition to a front view seat of the tranquil Aegean Sea.
If you are interested in having a bite, the port of Ammoudi is filled with restaurants which provide delicious Greek cuisine and friendly hospitality.
Even Oprah stopped by the award winning Sunset Taverna by Paraskevas restaurant to sample some Mediterranean flair.
It’s also helpful to mention that there is a small ferry at the bay that provides a 15-20 minute ride from Ammoudi Bay to Thirassia. Upon arrival back to Ammoudi, things can get a bit congested because of the small docking area and narrow driving space but if you pay for car service your driver will handle it like a pro.
Due to Ammoudi’s mostly low profile location and the current pandemic, the bay currently offers a relatively quiet spot away from most foot traffic compared to other villages on the island.
Like many travelers, you may find yourself visiting Santorini and staying in Oia for its popular hotels, one of a kind sunsets, and picturesque 360 views.
When you are done, be sure that you take some time to whisk yourself away to Ammoudi Bay where you can enjoy this distinct and beautiful ruby by the sea.
